Alabama Weigh Stations Truck Scales

Alabama has only one physical weigh station of the traditional type. But they have several other non-traditional scales. These are weigh-in-motion plates in the road. Off to the side of the freeway you will see a building that looks like a shack. The officer will be watching and knows which truck was being weighed and will pull out and pull you over on an off-ramp.

PrePass trucks that receive a green light in Alabama still must enter the open weigh station if they have an oversize/overweight (even permitted) load, livestock load, bulk fuel load, or agricultural load.

The Alabama fuel tax rate is $0.212 per gallon of diesel. Alabama’s fuel tax includes a $0.02 per gallon inspection fee. Cities and counties may also tax the fuel sold in their areas- anywhere from $0.005 to $0.06 per gallon of diesel fuel.

Dothan (Midland City) – 231 sb Alabama Weigh Station Truck Scales
This is a south bound check station for portables and paperwork inspections. Locals say that DOT does set up here from time to time. There is a Citgo fuel stop just south of the Midland City check station. There is a Flying J Truck Stop at the junction of route 231/Oates St and Ross Clark Circle on the south side of Dothan. The Inland Travel Plaza is located on the south side of Ozark, north of the Dothan truck scale.

Heflin (New Hopewell) – I 20 wb Alabama Weigh Station Truck Scales
This is the only permanent scale location in Alabama. exit 5 in GA has a Noble truckstop, Pilot and Citgo east of the scale, exit 205 has a BP truckstop west of the scale.

This weigh station is set up to weigh trucks headed both north bound and south bound- but it is located on the north bound side of route 231
