Illinois Weigh Stations Truck Scales
Illinois has signs on the freeway that say all trucks over 8 tons must weigh at the truck weigh stations.
PrePass trucks that receive a green light in Illinois must still enter an open weigh station if they are pulling an oversize/overweight (even permitted) load.
Illinois was a split speed limit state until 2009, with a 65 mph limit for cars and a 55 mph limit for trucks. But now cars and trucks have equal speed limits.
You’ll see a lot of bears rolling around, too. And most times no one says anything on the radio about them. There used to be a bear who patrolled a stretch of I 70 and who would get on the cb radio and announce himself. Someone would ask, “where’s that bear at?” and he would respond, “I’m right here, in the white car with the yellow strip and the lights.” He was a nice guy and wouldn’t give you a ticket unless you REALLY deserved one- but he WOULD tell you to slow it down.

Exit 267 has an old 76 truck stop (now the I 55 Auto/Truck stop) north of the Bolingbrook weigh station. Exit 257 has a Clark Truck Stop south of the Joliet truck scale.

Brownstown I 70 eb Illinois Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is a sign on the road prior to the exit before the Brownstown weigh station that says “Trucks Over 8 Tons Must Stay on I 70.” Exit 68 has the Association of Christian Truckers Road Angel’s Truckers Center with truck parking, showers and laundry north of the freeway west of the Brownsville truck scale. Exit 82 has a McDonald’s and Phillips 66 with a small truck lot and there is a rest area at mile marker 86.5 east of the weigh station. There are also several truck stops in Effingham, Illinois, at the junction with I 57 east of the scale.

Chicago Heights 30 Illinois Weigh Station Truck Scales
This is one weigh station location that weighs trucks traveling east and west bound. The scale is located on the north side of route 30 between Torrence Avenue and route 83/Glenwood-Dyer Road. Local drivers say the Chicago Heights weigh station is usually open weekdays in the morning and early afternoons.

There is a Gentleman’s Club on the sw corner of the junction of route 30 and route 251. At the junction of route 30 and route 52 (13 miles west of the scale) there is a truck stop and Sunset Inn Farm Restaurant with room for trucks to park. The picnic area east of the scale has no truck parking available.
Crossville 14, 1 nb sb Illinois Weigh Station Truck Scales
The Crossville weigh station is one weigh station location that can weigh trucks headed both north and south on route 1. It is located just .3 miles south of the route 14 east turnoff. Locals say that the scale hasn’t been used in several years.
Kurt’s Truck Repair is located just north of the route 14 east turnoff north of the truck scale. There is a big, dirt lot at the same location as the truck repair that is large enough to accommodate trucks- it is private property.
