Indiana Weigh Stations Truck Scales

All trucks are required to enter an Indiana weigh station if it’s open. This includes pickup trucks with trailers and rental trucks of all sizes and weights.

PrePass trucks that receive a green light in Indiana must still enter an open weigh station if they are pulling an oversize/overweight (even permitted) load.

Indiana is a split speed limit state. Trucks traveling in Indiana are limited to 65 mph while cars are allowed 70 mph. There is current controversy surrounding the Indiana toll roads. It’s possible the toll roads will be sold to foreign investors, but the final decisions and deals have yet to be made.

If you get a ticket for not having a logbook or for having an inadequate logbook in Indiana, it will cost you $199.00. If you ticket for not wearing a seat belt, it will cost you $120.00.

Indiana state police are required by Indiana Code 9-20-17-1 to make at least 25 weight checks per officer per week.

The Indiana fuel tax rate is $0.448 per gallon of diesel. This includes a 6% sales tax and penny per gallon inspection fee. Indiana has a $0.11 per gallon surcharge on diesel that is paid quarterly on a self-reporting basis.

Exit 156 has a Petro truck stop and exit 149 has a Loves east of the truck weigh station. Exit 145 has a Stuckeys with truck parking and there is a rest area at mm 144 west of the Richmond scale.

(Terre Haute) – 70 eb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is a rest area at mm 1.5 east of the Terre Haute weigh station.

Chesterton (Michigan City) – I 94 eb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is a Steel City truck stop at exit 34 A, and if you can’t find parking there you can go north on 421 (exit 34 B) and there is a Home Depot/Wal-Mart etc.

Hillsboro (Crawfordsville) – I 74 eb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
Exit 8 has truck parking at Shelton Fireworks and exit 4 has a Pilot west of the Hillsboro scale. There is a rest area at mm 23 and a truck stop at exit 34 east of the weigh station.

Lowell I 65 sb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
This scale has a large inspection bay. There is a scale on the northbound side but it is closed, boarded up and the trees are overgrown.

Seymour I 65 nb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is no inpsection bay at this scale- just an outdoor pull around area in the back. If you park at this weigh station (limited space) and they are open when you leave, you will have to cross around past the scale. There is a T.A. Travel Center at exit 50 A, south of the Seymour weigh station and a rest area at mm 72.5 north of the truck scales.

If you park at this weigh station (limited space) and they are open when you leave, you will have to cross around past the scale. There is a T.A. Travel Center at exit 50 A south of the Seymour scale. There is a rest area at mm 73.5 north of the truck weigh station.

Warren (Huntington) – I 69 sb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is a rest area at mm 93 north of the Warren weigh station. There is a Crazy D’s truck stop with a large parking lot and a Huggy Bear’s Quick Stop with truck parking south of the truck scale.

West Harrison I 74 wb Indiana Weigh Station Truck Scales
There is a large double-bay inspection building in the back lot of the West Harrison weigh station. There is a small Shell gas station with diesel islands and several truck parking spots at exit 3 in Ohio before you get to the weigh station- the exit is Dry Fork Road. You’ll go off the exit, cross over the freeway and get ready to turn right on the side street (no street sign) before the light. If you miss the turn, go to the light at Harrison Ave. and turn right, but you will come around to the Shell and you will need to turn right on that same side street to get to the truck parking entrance.

There is a rest area at mile marker 152 west of the truck scale.
